Torbay Town Council Seeks Youth Representative

Torbay Town Council is proud to announce that it is seeking a Youth Representative to serve on Torbay Town Council.

The Youth Representative will join Torbay Town Council for regular public council meetings and be both an advocate for issues and raise awareness of these issues that are affecting youth in Torbay.

Candidates must be ordinarily resident in Torbay for a minimum of thirty days prior to election day,
Candidates must be less than 18 years of age on election day (Wednesday, March 7th),
Candidates must be currently enrolled in grade 11 or grade 12.

Have strong leadership abilities,
Be committed to youth issues in Torbay,
Be self-motivated,
Be able to think strategically,
Have the ability to work independently,
Be compassionate to the concerns of those you represent.

The term of the Youth Representative shall serve for the period, March 2018 to June 2019.

Be accessible to youth in Torbay and hear their concerns and issues,
Participate in regular bi-weekly public council meetings at Torbay Town Hall,
Speak to youth issues in Torbay at each public council meeting,
Engage with the Mayor and members of Torbay Town Council on issues affecting youth in Torbay.

Interested and eligible candidates must come forward on Nomination Day,
Nominations will be accepted 8:30am to 6:00pm on Monday February 12th, IDs required,
Nomination forms must be signed in person by the nominee and their two nominators at Torbay Town Hall on Nomination Day,
Should there be one nominated candidate, the Youth Representative shall be deemed elected by acclamation,
Should there be more than one nominated candidate, an election shall be held,
The Advance Poll is scheduled for 8:00am to 8:00pm, Wednesday, February 28th at Torbay Town Hall,
The election shall be held from 8:00am to 8:00pm on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018,
Polling stations for the election shall be set up at Holy Trinity High School and Torbay Town Hall,
Eligible voters must be ordinarily resident in Torbay for a minimum of thirty days prior to election day, be currently enrolled in grade 11 or grade 12 and must show a school ID,
Eligible voters shall mark an ‘X’ on their ballot next to their selected candidate,
The candidate with the most votes shall be elected Youth Representative,
The Youth Representative Elect shall be sworn in at the regular public council meeting scheduled for Monday, March 12th, 2018 at 6:30pm at Torbay Town Hall.
